As an exchange student from Vassar college (New York, United States), I have tried to use much of my time to travel and experience London as well as other parts of UK. My first ever travel outside of London in UK & my MOST memorable trip was Oxford and Cambridge.

While a lot of other exchange students join a tour group ( something like UKstudy tours ; it actually looks quite nice travel agency for exchange students – not too expensive, day tour mostly etc.), I wanted to do most of my traveling in UK by myself and with my friends. Also, my middle school friend goes to Oxford, so I wanted to stay in Oxford more than a day (which happened to be 2 and half days).

People usually say you do not need more than a day to look around in Oxford, but NO WAY. It was worth staying more than a day. Besides popular touristy spots, there are so many little things & great food places & galleries you can enjoy in Oxford. So here are some of my recommendation for what to do in Oxford as if you are an insider *woot woot*.

영국에서 교환하면서 최대한 많이 런던 및 교외로 여행하려고 노력중이다. 여태껏 방문했던 곳 중 가장 기억에 남는 곳은 옥스포드 + 캠브리지 여행! 보통 옥스포드 하루면 된다하지만 난 이틀 반이나 있었어도 또 가고 싶은 도시였다.

다 이쁘고 다 좋고 다 맛있었던 곳! 옥스포드 다니는 친구에게 전수받은 꿀팁들을 여기다가 모조리 풀어보려한다. 옥스포드 여행 가시는 분들 꼭 참고하셔서 즐거운 여행 하시길 :)

So here is my *SECRET* list of places to go enjoy & eat in Oxford.. 숨겨왔던 옥스포드 꿀맛 꿀팁!

FOOD (yes, the MOST important thing while you travel. No Doubt)

여행은 뭐니뭐니해도 음식, 먹방이 최고

1. Fomosan – Bubble Tea (located in the hidden alley) : Recommended by my Oxford friend

옥스포드 친구의 추천 #1 포모산의 버블티 (골목 안에 있으니 잘 찾아들어가셔야 합니다!)

2. Chiang Mai – Thai Food (Quite Pricey) : Recommended by my Oxford friend

3. Covered Market – I only tried Ben’s Cookies and Pie Minister, which you can find anywhere else in UK, so I recommend you to try more stuff)

4. Art Cafe – It’s on the way to Oxford Castle from the city center street. There are many great art pieces inside the cafe and desserts are good as well. I will upload more photos of it later :D

이건 내가 직접 찾아낸 카페! 시내로 나와서 옥스포드 캐슬로 가는 쪽에 있는 카페인데 디저트들도 맛있고 무엇보다 안의 그림들이 하나같이 좋다! 유명한 아티스트들의 작품으로 가게를 잘 꾸며놓았다. 사진은 더 업로드 할예정 :)

 

5. Saint Mary’s Church Restaurant/Cafe (and just a quick tip – Saint Mary’s Church has a better view than Carfax Tower.)

6. ***IMPORTANT*** HASSAN Kebab truck (on the road of Eagle & Child and Sainsbury) – They have special menus not written on the menu board – Special 1, 2, 3 – only Korean students know about these menus and they are amazing. I only tried Special 1 and would like to try rest of them on my next visit :)

* HASSAN will not be there during Easter break, so don’t waste you time looking for it in April 2015

제일 중요한 이곳. 핫산 케밥 트럭! 이글앤 차일드 펍과 세인즈베리 가게가 있는 도로를 걷다보면 보인다. 한국인 유학생들만 아는 특별한 메뉴들이 있으니 시도해보시길 – 스페셜 1, 2, 3 가 있다구 한다! 엄청엄청 맛있다…대박머ㅏㅓ피ㅏ;앞;ㅁㅇ참이

옥스포드 방학동안은 핫싼느님도 잠시 쉰다고 하니 올해 (2015) 이스터 방학기간에 가셔서 핫산 트럭 찾다가 허탕치지맙시당ㅠㅠ

 

EGGS guys.. EGGSSSSS! That makes everything different <3 Although it might not look as delicious as I recommended, believe me… TASTE >>>>>>>> PHOTO.

사진에는 맛있게 안 보이더라도 겉모습에 속지 마시길… 계란이 들어간 케밥은 레벨이 다르답니다 ^^

AND…

 

 

PUB CRAWL (This is #1 reason why you should stay in Oxford more than a day. I went to 6 pubs in 3 days and every pub was awesome)

옥스포드를 갔다면 펍 크롤은 하고 오는게 진리

1. Eagle & Child – Well-known as a pub of J.R.R Tolkin and C.S. Louis: the pub actually has a lot of traces of them

반지의 제왕과 나니아 연대기의 작가 두명을 탄생시킨 전설적인 펍. 톨킨과 루이스의 흔적들이 많이 남아있어 볼만하다. (맥주는 그냥 괜찮은 정도?)

2. The Kings & Arms – I found my one of favorite beers, London Stout, at this pub. The inside decoration is really amazing as well.

나의 사랑 런던 스타우트 맥주를 처음 발견한 펍! 매우 부드럽고 맛있었다. 안의 분위기 및 장식들도 정말 좋다.

 

3. Freud – It preserved the ancient Church and made it into a pub (quite ironic). The appearance of in and outside of the pub is breathtaking, gorgeous, beautiful and so on… This reuse of the building also goes well with sustainability – instead of destroying and building a whole new one, it kept the beauty of historical building :D

프로이드 – 이전의 교회 건물을 다시 재사용하는 – **지속가능성** 돋는 펍! 겉에서 봐도 멋있고 안에서 봐도 이쁜 펍이다. 굉장히 넓고 분위기 있는 펍이라서 추천해드린다.

 

OTHERS … 

1. The Story Museum & its Cafe (CLOSED ON MONDAY) : I wanted to but could not visit. I would like to recommend this if you like childhood stories and special installations. Cafe is well-decorated as well!

동심으로 돌아가고 싶어하는 분들에게 추천해드리고 싶다. 나는 들어가보지 못했지만 나중에 방문하면 가보고 싶은 곳 :) 카페도 매우 잘 꾸며져있다.

2. Modern Art Oxford – there are many interesting installations going on here. I recommend here more than the museum.

다양하고 볼만한 전시들이 많이 진행되는 것 같다. 시간이 없다면 박물관보다는 여기를 추천해드리고 싶다.
