Covent Garden’s Best Kept Secret – Le Garrick Restaurant

Covent Garden’s best kept secret – Le Garrick
Just another night wandering around Covent Garden looking for something new to try, we stumbled across Le Garrick – a cozy restaurant located at the corner of Floral Street and Garrick Street. Attracted by its outer Parisian furnishing, we walked up to the entrance where the menu was displayed. Suddenly feeling the crave for escargots, we decided to settle for a French cuisine.

Exquisite wall decor
As we walked through the entrance, I was quite surprised at the slightly cramped ground floor of the restaurant. I curiously looked around the compact surroundings when a friendly waitress asked whether we would like to have a seat outdoors or downstairs. Dying to know what’s hiding under the spiral staircase, I asked for a table for two downstairs.

The warm radiance of the candlelight
As we were led down the spiral staircase, I couldn’t help but notice the wall covered with pop art and the intriguing decor. Yet when we got to the bottom of the stairs, we entered a completely different environment. We were enveloped in an alcove decorated with coarse bricks and gouache paintings. We were ushered to a seat by the wall where the candlelight flickered and bathed our seats with a warm radiance.
I went for the signature French Onion Soup, escargots to share, and a tomato salad as I wasn’t feeling too hungry nor too adventurous. As this restaurant offers pre- and post-theatre menus, we were able to get the onion soup plus a ‘butcher’s choice’ steak at a post-theatre menu price – such a good bargain (thanks to our helpful waitress who calculated the best deal for us!)
The bill came to £36 altogether, which I reckon is a fair price for Le Garrick’s generous portions and yummy courses. Our amiable waitress handed us the bill along with the restaurant’s business card, revealing its befitting slogan – “Covent Garden’s best kept secret”. The romantic ambience and eccentric decor of Covent Garden’s hidden gem definitely adds to the ‘worth going to’-ness of this restaurant and I would undoubtedly return to this restaurant for more authentic French dishes.
