Steamed Egg – My Fav!
The Travelling Pixie in Hong Kong
Sushi Shin 鮨辰
During my stay in Hong Kong over the Christmas holidays (yep I know its already February, sorry for this super late post!) I went to a couple of great places for a nice, authentic Japanese cuisine. Concealed from the average tourists’ eyes, Tai Hang is a delightful little district just behind the bustling Causeway Bay. Secretly loaded with amazingly unique shops, restaurants and bars, Tai Hang is definitely the place to go if you’re looking to get away from the busy city.
One of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve been to in Hong Kong is Sushi Shin (鮨辰). Its coziness, friendly staff – including the chefs (surprisingly!) and its F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S food is what captivates me, and lures me back for more every time I spend my holidays back in Hong Kong.
If the price is not an issue, go for the omikase (a-la-carte) menu, but if you’d like to taste some authentic Japanese dishes at a bargain, just pick a set lunch out of the twenty-three options! The lunch set comes with Pickles, Steamed Egg, Main Course, Rice, Miso Soup and Coffee or Ice Cream – I always go for the deliciously rich Green Tea Ice Cream! and ranges from HKD120 to HKD240 (approx. £10-£20) depending on the set you’re ordering.
As usual, I opted for the Sashimi Lunch Set as their sashimi is one of the best I’ve had in Hong Kong – and for such a bargain! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for everyone as this is definitely one of my favourite places to go to. Its a 5-7 minute walk from Tin Hau MTR Station on the Island Line and a 15-20 minute walk from the bustling streets of Causeway Bay – so its not too far! But do remember to call them in advance to avoid disappointment as they do get very fully booked!
